Growing up...parents and children

My oldest son has been officially accepted to both state universities. Not that we doubted the schools wanted him, but there’s something about waiting for an acceptance letter. Today the letter arrived from the school his heart’s set on—the joy on his face almost made me cry. I held it in though…I’ll be doing enough of that when he leaves in the fall…

Parenthood is a double-edged sword. You spend 18 years prepping your children for the life ahead, and you’re truly happy when they step into the world on their own. But a huge part of your life walks out the door with them...

And from what I understand, the worry factor actually increases--how fair is that?? They’re beyond your protective curfews and rules—you have no idea what they’re doing or who they’re with. Most parents take up drinking at this point…some even take up knitting…

As I type this, my son and daughter are viewing a play at the high school. These are the moments that make it all worthwhile…my daughter skipping happily out the door beside her oldest brother...him reaching out to hold her hand. I know he’ll come back to visit after he leaves, I’m pretty sure he loves us as much as we love him.

Congratulations, Sweetie, from the bottom of my heart...

That was very beautiful and moving. You've done a great job and he will be more than fine. Give them all a hug for me.
